Hon. Geoffrey Otieno Opiyo established a robust reputation during his initial tenure in the Homa Bay County Assembly, where his administration focused heavily on rural road networks, building bridges, and expanding access to local dispensaries. In the August 2022 general elections, he mounted a highly competitive re-election campaign. After a disputed nomination process within the dominant Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party, he ran a high-stakes campaign as an Independent Candidate. Though he narrowly lost the seat to the current MCA, Zackary Ong’ondo, Opiyo remains a powerful grassroots mobilizer. He is actively organizing local community factions ahead of the 2027 election cycle to reclaim the South Kasipul legislative seat
