About Leonard Muriuki Wamuthende
Hon. Leo Wa Muthende Njeru (born Leonard Muriuki Wamuthende) is the Member of Parliament (MP) for Mbeere North Constituency in Embu County, Kenya. Representing the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party, he assumed office following a highly competitive by-election on November 27, 2025, which was triggered after his predecessor, Geoffrey Ruku, joined the presidential Cabinet. Despite navigating a controversial legal dispute over a deed poll name change prior to the vote and facing a subsequent High Court petition from runner-up Newton Kariuki, his victory was formally validated and upheld by the Embu High Court on May 21, 2026. In the National Assembly, he has actively contributed to legislative debates focusing primarily on improvements to local and national healthcare standards.
