About Simon Kachapin
Simon Kachapin is a prominent Kenyan politician currently serving his second term as the Governor of West Pokot County, representing the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party. Born in 1967 in Sigor, Kachapin began his career as a dedicated educator, working as a high school teacher and Senior Principal at Tamkal and Ortum Boys High Schools after earning a Bachelor's Degree in Education from Moi University. He made history by being elected as the first Governor of West Pokot in 2013, and though he lost the seat in 2017 to John Lonyangapuo, he made a successful political comeback to reclaim the governorship in the 2022 general elections. Known for his focus on development, healthcare reforms, and social protection initiatives, Kachapin was ranked 6th overall among Kenya's 47 governors in the 2026 Infotrak CountyTrak Performance Index.
