In August 2025, former Mathare MP Steven Kariuki launched the formal Kenya Moja Movement Party, inviting aspirants for by-elections and the 2027 polls. Simultaneously, the movement splintered, with Senator Edwin Sifuna leading a breakaway faction called Linda Mwananchi. A significant development occurred in September 2026, when Bishop Margaret Wanjiru resigned from the Nairobi Rivers Commission and declared her Nairobi Governor candidacy on the Kenya Moja (K1) ticket, aligning the party with the opposition. Despite early ambitions to unify diverse regions, the movement's central "third force" cohesion has faded, with most original leaders now integrated into other political structures or regional alliances.
