About Samuel Poghisio
Samuel Losuron Poghisio is a veteran Kenyan politician, former Cabinet Minister, and the former Senate Majority Leader who is currently vying for the West Pokot gubernatorial seat as a prominent "third force" candidate. Born on November 25, 1958, Poghisio holds degrees from Makerere University, Wheaton College, and Lincoln University, and he initially worked as a lecturer at Daystar University before entering politics. He served multiple terms as the Member of Parliament for Kacheliba Constituency starting in 1988, rose to become the Minister for Information and Communications (2007–2013) under President Mwai Kibaki, and was later elected as the Senator for West Pokot County in 2017. A loyal, long-standing member and strategist for the Kenya African National Union (KANU) party, Poghisio is leveraging his extensive three-decade legislative and national governance experience to challenge the local political dominance of Simon Kachapin and John Lonyang'apuo.
